Sony Ericsson W995 Price

The top mobile brands in the world are going all out in this battle for the megapixels. But the ‘megapixel myth’ (more the megapixels, the better the quality of pictures) which most believe in, is quite stupid to be frank. In our opinion, 5 mega pixels is usually more than enough, even to print large posters! Its the quality of the lens that matters, not the megapixel number.

Sony  Ericsson’s new 8 megapixel camera phone packs in most features but the camera, irrespective of the megapixels, cannot match Sony Ericsson’s very own Cybershot mobile series, C905 for example. Apart from that, its the video recording at WQVGA resolution, that falls way below expectations. But overall the large screen, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, 8GB memory card and the rest, makes the W995 worth a look. Features, pictures below..

Some Specs and features of Sony W995:

  • 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • Video recording : WQVGA at 30 fps
  • 118 MB internal storage
  • 2.6 inches screen (240 x 320 res)
  • Accelerometer (Shake Control, SensMe etc)
  • Second camera at the front for video calling
  • Geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilizer
  • Memory Stick Micro slot. 8GB comes bundled with the box.
  • Stereo FM radio, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi
  • GPS support
  • 3.5 mm standard audio jack
  • GPRS, EDGE, 3G
  • Kickstand
  • Walkman player v4.0
  • Music playback : 20 hours
  • Battery : 930 mAh (BST-38). Talktime : 9 hours
  • Dimensions – 97 x 49 x 15 mm
  • Weight  – 113 grams

Sony W995 Positives

  • Good looking, decent build quality
  • Above average picture quality, since the W995 is basically a music series phone (Walkman), you can’t really expect it to click great pictures
  • Large screen, 2.6 inch is good enough for a non-touch phone.
  • Multitaking support
  • All the features mentioned above

Sony W995 Negatives

  • Price is on the higher side, since the only reason for probably buying this, is a good camera.
  • No XENON flash
  • Video recording is poor.
  • Lacks a lens protector

Sony W995 Colors:

  1. Progressive Black
  2. Cosmic Silver
  3. Energetic Red

Sony W995 Price in India:

  • With a price of around Rs 23,500 (As of 30th August 2009) with bill and 1 year of warranty, the Sony W995 is not exactly value for money. You have better options with better camera quality, in the same price bracket if not lesser. If your a hardcore Sony Walkman series fan, go for it, you wont be disappointed. Others could give Sony C905 a thought, the camera is way better! Wait for our review of the phone tomorrow. Untill then, drool over the pictures below!
